According to the latest research by Wood Mackenzie, in the 43 markets it compared, the levelized cost of electricity for 4-hour battery energy storage is lower than that of open-cycle gas turbines. The research covers Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. As AI data centers drive up electricity demand, with tightening supply and extended lead times for gas turbines, along with fuel price fluctuations, energy storage systems are becoming a more cost-competitive option for meeting peak demand.
