At the 2026 Google Cloud Gemini at Work conference, Google Cloud made a splash by introducing the Gemini Agent, a versatile, enterprise-grade AI agent. With this innovative tool, users can effortlessly set objectives in natural language, and Gemini Agent will take it from there—autonomously dissecting tasks, tapping into enterprise data, crafting and running code, churning out diverse content types, and driving complex projects forward via the cloud. It's also adept at orchestrating a team of sub-agents to work in harmony, effectively joining the ranks as a digital teammate in collaborative efforts. Throughout the process, users retain full control, able to monitor progress, tweak requirements, or greenlight critical actions on the fly, all without the need for micromanagement.

Gemini Agent boasts cross-platform accessibility, seamless integration with leading office suites, and tailored editions for the finance and legal sectors. Its four-tier memory system minimizes the need for users to repeatedly supply context, enables intelligent multi-model routing, slashes overall operational costs to a mere third of those incurred by relying solely on state-of-the-art models, and accelerates processes by 40%. Google Cloud has further enhanced the agent's capabilities by incorporating a suite of data-related functionalities, simplifying access to fragmented enterprise data. Additionally, a robust enterprise governance framework is in place, encompassing identity auditing, execution isolation, traffic management, and real-time spending caps, all designed to guarantee the security and manageability of autonomous agent operations.

As of now, Gemini Agent's official commercial release date and pricing remain under wraps, with the product currently available for preview to a select group of enterprise users. Domestically, it faces competition from similar offerings like Doubao Work, Tencent WorkBuddy, and Alibaba QianWen Office. Google Cloud will now have to prove Gemini Agent's mettle in real-world production settings, particularly in terms of permission governance, cross-system integration, and other critical areas.
