As reported by CCTV News, during China's 16th Arctic expedition, the inaugural successful test of a homegrown satellite system was carried out, facilitating video calls between the North and South Poles with a delay of under 1 second. This historic call bridged the 'Xuelong' (Snow Dragon) ship, the 'Polar' ship, the 'Exploration III' vessel, and China's Qinling Station in Antarctica, achieving seamless real-time communication across the two poles. Leveraging China's StarNet 'GW Constellation' initiative, the system demonstrated impressive upload and download speeds of approximately 30 megabits during testing. Moreover, the equipment is versatile enough to support emergency rescue operations and maritime communications. This milestone test underscores China's accomplishment in establishing autonomous and controllable communication capabilities in polar regions, thereby guaranteeing data security.
