According to sources who have requested anonymity and are well-informed on the matter, the Hong Kong government is gearing up to issue multi-currency digital green bonds, aiming to raise funds ranging from HK$15 billion to HK$20 billion (equivalent to approximately US$1.9 billion to US$2.6 billion). This move is anticipated to mark the world's largest bond transaction of its kind. The bonds will be denominated in a variety of currencies, including US dollars, Hong Kong dollars, euros, and offshore renminbi. Pricing for these bonds could be finalized as early as next Monday. To facilitate this process, the Hong Kong government has enlisted the services of several banks to organize a series of meetings with fixed-income investors. Notably, in November 2025, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government successfully priced and issued multi-currency digital green bonds amounting to approximately HK$10 billion, spanning four currencies. The total subscriptions for these bonds surpassed HK$130 billion, reflecting an impressive oversubscription rate of 12 times.
