As reported by Bloomberg, there has been a notable uptick in resistance to the construction of data centers throughout the United States. Data Center Watch, a research firm, revealed that from April to June this year, roughly 45 data center projects, cumulatively valued at US$68 billion, have encountered roadblocks or experienced delays as a result of local community opposition. Presently, numerous communities across the U.S. are advocating for the prohibition of new data center developments, frequently taking proactive measures even prior to developers submitting permit applications. Moreover, around 30 state legislative bodies have either proposed or enacted regulations addressing concerns related to the siting, power consumption, and water usage of data centers.
