The Ubuntu development team under Canonical has unveiled the roadmap for the core components of Ubuntu 26.10. Codenamed 'Stonking Stingray', this version, originally planned to feature the Linux 7.2 kernel, has now been upgraded to Linux 7.3 to provide updated hardware support. Ubuntu 26.10 will be officially released on October 15, 2026. As a non-LTS version, its core mission is to lay the foundation for the next-generation LTS release, Ubuntu 28.04 LTS. This version comes pre-installed with the latest GNOME 51 desktop environment, introduces a localized speech-to-text tool called 'Myna', and switches the default message bus from dbus-daemon to dbus-broker. Additionally, Ubuntu 26.10 has streamlined the functionality of the signed GRUB bootloader, removing native support for technologies such as ZFS and LVM to enhance the security of the boot process.
