On September 17, 2026, at the Huawei Full Connect Conference, Wang Tao, Huawei's rotating chairman, announced that the Ascend 960 super node represents a pioneering achievement in the industry as the first super node to incorporate the NPO (Near-Package Optics) optical engine. This cutting-edge technology enables the super node to support both the training and inference processes for massive models boasting up to 10 trillion parameters. Specifically, the Atlas 960 liquid-cooled super node is slated for release in the third quarter of 2027, whereas the Atlas 860 air-cooled super node is expected to hit the market in the second quarter of 2027. Furthermore, Huawei has already deployed over 1,000 sets of Ascend super nodes, with the Ascend 950 super node enjoying widespread commercial adoption.
