On September 14, Firmus Technologies Pty, a leading data center provider, unveiled its plans to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in Australia, with ambitions to raise up to $5 billion and a target listing date set for late October. However, negotiations are still in progress, and the specifics of the offering—including its final size and timing—are subject to change. Based on available data, this IPO has the potential to rank among the largest in Australian history, rivaling the scale of Medibank Private’s 2014 debut, which raised close to $5 billion. This development is expected to deliver a significant boost to Australia’s primary market, as fundraising totals so far this year have barely surpassed $1 billion, a stark contrast to the more than $2 billion raised in each of the two preceding years. Notably, the Australian company has already secured contracts with several U.S. tech behemoths ahead of its listing, including a deal with OpenAI to supply computational support from two data center facilities in Malaysia.
