South Korea has designated a gas-fired power initiative in Texas, USA, as its inaugural investment project in the United States, pursuant to the trade agreement signed last year. This strategic decision is anticipated to alleviate the strains that have persisted between the two nations for months, stemming from disagreements over the pace of fulfilling South Korea's investment pledges. As per South Korean media sources, the project, situated in Encinal, Texas, entails an investment of roughly $22 billion and boasts a cumulative installed capacity of 6.3 gigawatts. The initial phase of the project will see the construction of a 1.4-gigawatt gas turbine generator unit, with a subsequent expansion of 4.9 gigawatts in combined-cycle power generation capabilities to cater to the escalating electricity requirements of artificial intelligence data centers.
