CSCIB Report: Global Gas Turbine Orders Surge, AIDC Gas-Powered Generation Projects See Robust Year-on-Year Expansion

A research report released by CSCIB highlights that global gas turbine orders soared to around 38GW in the second quarter of 2026, setting a new record for a single quarter, with the United States accounting for nearly half of this demand. During the first half of the year, the capacity of gas-fired power generation projects that commenced construction in the United States surged by 76% year-on-year, reaching 52GW, out of which 16.9GW is earmarked to directly power data centers. Concurrently, the development capacity of internal combustion engines for projects linked to data centers (encompassing announced, pre-construction, and construction stages) has more than tripled over the past six months, totaling 45GW and representing roughly one-fourth of the gas-fired power generation projects that support data centers.

The second quarter witnessed a record-breaking spike in global gas turbine orders, paralleled by an expansion in the scale of gas-fired power generation projects under construction in the United States and a rising share of data center-related initiatives. Owing to the scarcity of delivery slots for heavy-duty gas turbines, certain clients are resorting to modular equipment to expedite the commissioning process. The market for gas internal combustion engines is witnessing swift growth, and the industry's supply-demand imbalance is anticipated to persist.
