Wang Pengfei, Director of the Department of Electronic Commerce and Informatization at the Ministry of Commerce, elaborated on the accomplishments over the past year following the release of the Guidelines on Vigorously Developing Digital Consumption and Fostering a Better Digital Life. According to the Ministry of Commerce's calculations, in the first half of 2026, the scale of digital consumption among Chinese residents soared to RMB 13.3 trillion, marking a 4.1% year-on-year increase. Cutting-edge digital products, such as smart walking exoskeletons and consumer-grade 3D printers, gained significant traction among consumers. Digital services, including online short dramas and virtual reality parks, experienced a 7.0% growth, with a notable surge in individual payments for large-scale models. The impact of digital consumption on China's commodity and service consumption in the first half of the year continued to intensify.
