The Optimal Transit maritime technology consortium, a collaborative venture between InMar Technologies and OptiFuel Systems, has recently introduced the groundbreaking ‘Blue Economy VITAL 100-Megawatt Kraken’ concept—a large-scale offshore infrastructure platform. Leveraging a Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) design and equipped with an adaptable mooring system, this innovative platform is capable of generating 100 megawatts of clean electricity, producing nearly 8 million gallons of vacuum flash-distilled freshwater daily, and harnessing 60 megawatts of computing power to fuel AI computations.

At the heart of the platform lies its Digital Ocean Thermal (DOT) system, which seamlessly integrates ocean thermal energy and computing waste heat for efficient power generation. Meanwhile, cold seawater is utilized for precise temperature control management. Electricity, freshwater, and data are transmitted to shore through a quick-disconnect umbilical system, enabling the vessel to swiftly relocate within hours in response to extreme weather conditions.

This versatile platform can serve as a vital disaster response tool, rapidly restoring essential services in coastal areas ravaged by storms. Moreover, multiple units can be interconnected to form a ‘Sovereign Power Park,’ capable of supplying electricity to entire urban regions. Optimal Transit envisions offering configurations ranging from 10 to 100 megawatts, with the 100-megawatt hull measuring approximately 90 meters in length. The estimated cost for this configuration is less than $500 million (excluding computing hardware), with annual operating expenses projected to range between $10 million and $20 million.
