On September 3, Microsoft (MSFT.O) unveiled plans to commence the quarterly disclosure of sales figures for its Azure cloud division. Until now, the tech giant had only shared Azure's revenue growth rate, keeping the actual revenue figures under wraps. Microsoft explained that, considering Azure's vast scale and significance, now is the right moment to boost transparency. This move signifies Microsoft's first major overhaul of its core financial reporting framework since 2015. Following the restructuring, Microsoft will consolidate its former Intelligent Cloud division with its Productivity and Business Processes division into a new segment called 'Agent and Infrastructure'. Simultaneously, it will rebrand its More Personal Computing division as the 'Devices and Consumers' segment. Microsoft highlighted that artificial intelligence is revolutionizing its product development and operational approaches, blurring the lines between products and reshaping its business models. Earlier, Microsoft revealed that Azure's sales surpassed $100 billion in the fiscal year that concluded in June, up from $75 billion the previous year, representing roughly 30% of Microsoft's total revenue. The revamped reporting structure will officially kick in when Microsoft releases its first-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2027.
