According to reports, SB Energy—a data center and energy infrastructure firm under the SoftBank umbrella—has extended warrants valued at around $5.5 billion to OpenAI, aiming to secure the latter as a tenant for its data centers. This strategic move was revealed in a draft IPO filing submitted by SB Energy.
Earlier this January, SB Energy inked a cooperation agreement with OpenAI, wherein OpenAI committed to investing $500 million and chose SB Energy to build and manage a previously announced 12-gigawatt data center campus in Texas. Moreover, OpenAI has recently entered into a lease agreement with SB Energy for a 10-gigawatt data center situated in Ohio. Meanwhile, SB Energy is gearing up for an IPO, which could take place as soon as next month.
