On August 31, The Wall Street Journal reported that ahead of the anticipated initial public offering (IPO) of SB Energy—a company backed by SoftBank—SB Energy extended warrants worth approximately $5.5 billion to OpenAI. The move was aimed at enticing OpenAI to become a tenant in its data centers. Notably, OpenAI had already made investments in SB Energy. SB Energy is poised to submit its IPO documentation for public review as early as this week. It is currently collaborating with bankers with the intention of launching the IPO potentially as soon as next month, with the goal of raising between $5 billion and $7 billion. At present, the majority of SB Energy's data center clientele are companies that also hold stakes in SB Energy as investors. The documents further disclosed that SoftBank and OpenAI have plans to lease three of SB Energy's data centers. The fourth data center, situated in Scurry County, Texas, boasts an installed capacity of 900 megawatts, and its clientele remains undetermined at this juncture.
