The General Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government has recently unveiled the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of 'Digital Shanghai'". This strategic blueprint envisions expediting the creation of 'dual 10-Gigabit cities,' fostering the widespread adoption of 50-Gigabit passive optical networks in pivotal settings, and ensuring comprehensive coverage of enhanced 5th generation mobile communication technology (5G-A) across central urban zones and critical suburban locales. Moreover, it emphasizes the need for seamless mobile communication network connectivity along low-altitude public air corridors below 300 meters. Shanghai is set to pioneer the large-scale deployment of integrated sensing and communication base stations. Concurrently, the plan advocates for extending 5G coverage up to 30 kilometers offshore and investigating novel paradigms such as 'base stations on vessels' and 'inter-vessel relay.' Furthermore, Shanghai is committed to propelling the extensive networking and commercialization of the 'Qianfan Constellation' satellite internet initiative, facilitating smart synergy and commercial deployment of 6th generation mobile communication technology (6G) test networks, and implementing low-altitude smart networks and urban internet of things on a broad scale. In the realm of communication technology research and development, Shanghai will expedite the exploration and infrastructure development of quantum communication technologies, while intensifying innovation and integrated applications of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) technologies.
