According to sources familiar with the matter, the UAE is planning to invest up to 1 trillion yen (approximately $6.3 billion) to build a 500-megawatt artificial intelligence data center in Akita Prefecture, Japan. Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company, will lead the investment, with participation from other domestic and foreign investors expected. Once completed, the data center is expected to become the largest in Japan. Including suppliers and companies interested in establishing operations nearby, the total project investment could reach 2 trillion yen. Additionally, a consortium of Japanese companies may be responsible for the construction of the data center and related infrastructure.
