On July 30, under the guidance of the Information and Communication Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group officially established the Satellite-Terrestrial Integration (NTN) Working Group in Beijing. NTN is a network system that utilizes non-terrestrial facilities such as satellites to provide communication coverage. The working group will coordinate the advancement of 6G satellite-terrestrial integrated network deployment, promote the integrated development of satellite communications and terrestrial mobile communications, and be responsible for technical organization coordination and industry promotion, covering multiple technical directions. In terms of organizational structure, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology serves as the lead unit, with several enterprises acting as deputy lead units, and the initial members cover the entire industrial chain. At the inaugural meeting, representatives exchanged views on relevant directions, believing that satellite-terrestrial integration is an important development direction for 6G, necessitating strengthened top-level design and cross-sectoral collaboration. In the future, the working group will carry out its work in three aspects: key technology research, experimental verification capability building, and industrial chain collaboration, relying on the platform to foster industry consensus and deepen collaborative innovation among industry, academia, research, and application.
