As exchanges discontinue the use of original local area network (LAN) trading lines within their server rooms and uniformly transition to wide area network (WAN) access for trading data, a discreet yet fierce competition for server rooms located near exchanges is emerging. Based on reports from those involved in the server room leasing business, the monthly rental cost for a standard 4,000-watt server rack in the vicinity of the Shanghai Stock Exchange's Jinqiao Data Center has escalated to roughly 10,000 yuan, a significant increase from the previous rate of approximately 7,000 yuan. Furthermore, "sales restrictions" have been in place since as early as March and April of this year. Multiple quantitative trading firms have corroborated this trend, noting that rental prices for server rooms have surged dramatically, with some experiencing several-fold increases. Despite the impossibility of accessing server rooms directly within exchanges, proximity to exchange data centers remains advantageous for enhancing trading speed.
