Our reporters have learned from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology that China is rapidly advancing the construction of a new-generation communication network. Notably, gigabit optical networks are now extensively applied across various sectors of the national economy. Zhao Ce, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information and Communication Development at the Ministry, highlighted that gigabit optical networks are deeply integrated with cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and big data. These networks now cover 91 out of 97 major economic sectors in the country. Furthermore, they have spurred the development of a range of replicable and scalable typical application solutions in diverse fields, including smart manufacturing, intelligent transportation, digital healthcare, and smart education. Currently, China has successfully achieved "gigabit connectivity in every county" and "broadband access in every village," boasting over 50,000 typical application cases of gigabit optical networks. Cities like Chongqing have even attained full urban-rural coverage of gigabit optical networks. Moreover, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has harnessed the power of all-optical networks to achieve a series of highly recognizable and replicable practical outcomes. This has been accomplished through the implementation of a specialized initiative focused on "millisecond computing" in metropolitan areas. By the end of June, the number of 10G passive optical network ports capable of delivering gigabit network services in China had surged to 32.86 million. Additionally, over 70 major computing channels have been established around national computing hub nodes, significantly enhancing network performance between relevant nodes.
