Industry insiders revealed on Wednesday that LG Energy Solution of South Korea will provide batteries for Google's largest solar and energy storage project, further expanding its energy infrastructure business related to the soaring electricity demand from AI data centers. Google and renewable energy developer Cypress Creek Energy jointly announced the 'Steel River Energy Center' project in Arkansas. In its initial phase, the project will feature 1.6 gigawatts of solar power generation capacity and approximately 2 gigawatt-hours of battery energy storage systems, with plans to expand to 2.5 gigawatts of solar power and 2.9 gigawatt-hours of storage capacity by 2029. LG Energy Solution is expected to supply its JF2 DC Link system, which utilizes lithium iron phosphate battery technology and is produced in North America. The order is estimated to be worth hundreds of billions of Korean won.
