QTS, a subsidiary under Blackstone, has declared the cancellation of the 'Data Gateway' data center project in Virginia, USA, along with the withdrawal of its application. Originally intended to establish the 'world's largest data center campus' sprawling across 850 hectares, the project received approval from the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. Nevertheless, it was ultimately scrapped amid continuous opposition from local residents and ongoing legal disputes. In recent times, the escalating demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing has spurred a data center construction boom in Virginia. The state hosts the world's largest data center cluster and has emerged as a prime investment hub for technology firms. Yet, the industry's growth has also sparked worries among local communities and policymakers regarding increasing electricity needs, land utilization, and water resource depletion. QTS emphasized that Virginia continues to be a vital component of its business strategy, and the company will persist in investing in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Central Virginia in the foreseeable future.
