On June 2, reports emerged that the world’s inaugural S+C+L three-band (short-wavelength band, conventional communication band, and long-wavelength band) ultra-low-loss multi-core fiber optic cable line was officially put into operation in Qingdao, Shandong Province. This innovative line has transcended the transmission capacity constraints of conventional optical fibers, signifying China’s advancement into a new era of commercialization for space-division multiplexing optical fibers and multi-band integration technology. It offers a groundbreaking solution for computing power interconnection and ultra-high-bandwidth transmission in the age of intelligence.

According to reports, this fiber optic cable was independently developed by China Mobile in collaboration with industry partners. The project overcame key technological bottlenecks and achieved significant commercialization milestones. It represents a pivotal moment, marking China’s shift from following to leading in the field of optical communication technology.
