On May 17, the 2026 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference convened in Wuhan, Hubei Province. At this significant gathering, the national emergency communication convergence access platform was officially rolled out for nationwide deployment, heralding a substantial upgrade in China's capacity to provide emergency communication support. This platform, a collaborative effort between the Emergency Communication Support Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and several telecom operators, is designed to tackle extreme situations characterized by 'network disruptions, power failures, and blocked roads.' It represents a technological leap forward with its 'single base station, full network compatibility' feature. The platform facilitates the unified access, monitoring, and coordination of diverse emergency base stations, enabling those affected by disasters to automatically connect to the emergency network without the need to change their devices or SIM cards, thereby meeting their fundamental communication requirements. During its practical trials, the platform has successfully bolstered emergency communication for numerous disaster incidents, cumulatively handling over 1.041 million user connections and facilitating more than 92,000 calls.
