On May 17, Wuhan played host to the 2026 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference. Zhong Zhihong, the Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, highlighted that China's information and communications sector has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years. The nation now boasts the world's largest, most comprehensive, technologically sophisticated, and high-performance information and communication network. Technologies such as 5G, gigabit optical networks, and the industrial internet have played a pivotal role in helping businesses cut costs, elevate quality, boost efficiency, and conserve energy. Furthermore, a range of pragmatic initiatives has offered robust backing for fostering new high-quality productive forces and propelling the new-type industrialization forward. During the conference, achievements were also unveiled, including the Top Ten Heartwarming Services in Information and Communications for 2026 and the nationwide rollout of the National Emergency Communication Converged Access Platform.
