On May 13, 2026, Microsoft announced the launch of the "Cloud-Initiated Driver Recovery" feature, which supports remote rollback of problematic drivers installed on devices from the cloud. It automatically uninstalls faulty drivers and restores them to a previously stable version. This feature primarily handles drivers distributed through Windows Update and aims to reduce manual user operations and intervention from hardware partners, thereby shortening device downtime. After confirming a driver has quality issues, Microsoft can issue a rollback command to affected devices via the cloud without requiring additional client agent installation or supplementary software from hardware partners. The feature will undergo manual verification and testing from May to August 2026, with formal inclusion in grayscale and phased rollout processes starting in September.
