In Fayette County, Georgia, USA, it has come to light that the expansive AI data center campus of the 'Excalibur Project,' operated by QTS—a subsidiary of Blackstone Group—secretly siphoned off over 29 million gallons of tap water through two unauthorized water supply lines over a period of approximately 15 months. This resulted in a staggering water bill of nearly $150,000. During this same timeframe, nearby residents were urged to refrain from watering their lawns in an effort to conserve water, as a noticeable decline in water pressure had been observed. Due to errors during a system transition and a shortage of staff at the water department, the issue was not promptly identified. Ultimately, only the unpaid water bill was recovered, with no fines imposed.
