According to the 2026 Global 5G Standard Essential Patents and Standard Proposal Research Report, issued by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Huawei has established a formidable lead in the realm of 5G standard essential patents, consistently securing the top global position for several years running. The global landscape of 5G core technologies is notably concentrated among a handful of leading companies, with the top ten enterprises collectively holding 67.03% of the total effective patent families. The top five global players are Huawei, Qualcomm, Samsung, LG, and ZTE, with Chinese companies claiming four spots in the premier league of global 5G technology competition. Huawei leads the pack with an 11.7% share of effective patent families, while other Chinese firms such as ZTE, Xiaomi, and OPPO have also demonstrated outstanding performance. The high-density deployment of core 5G patents by Chinese companies has marked a significant shift from being followers to becoming leaders. Sustained R&D investment has not only ensured the autonomy of domestic network construction but also contributed core technological assets to the global 5G ecosystem. Huawei's leading position can be attributed to its substantial R&D investment, with research and development expenditures surpassing 1.2 trillion yuan over the past decade.
