On April 7, the notion of 'space computing power' has recently captured considerable interest. Amid the burgeoning need for artificial intelligence computing capabilities and the swift expansion of global low-Earth orbit satellite constellations, space is becoming an attractive new domain for nations to invest in and strategically deploy computing resources. Guo Zebang, Director of the Information Technology Industry Bureau at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, disclosed that preparations are underway for the establishment of the Beijing Space Computing Power Innovation Center. This center aims to unite industry, academic, and research sectors to validate technologies for the development of comprehensive satellite systems and to achieve significant advancements in critical areas such as radiation-hardened chips and onboard thermal control. Deploying computing power in space represents a long-term commitment. Through the collaborative efforts of multiple stakeholders in the future, the creation of a space-earth integrated computing network will be expedited.
