Italy's communications regulatory body, AGCOM, has recently made public that Cloudflare has incurred a hefty fine of €14.2 million. This penalty stems from Cloudflare's refusal to implement a blockade of pirate websites through its public DNS resolution service, 1.1.1.1, as mandated by Italy's "Piracy Shield" legislation. AGCOM emphasized that Cloudflare was obligated to deactivate pertinent domain name resolutions at the DNS tier and to obstruct traffic heading towards specific IP addresses, as reported by rights holders. The imposed fine represents roughly 1% of Cloudflare's yearly revenue, with the upper legal limit for fines being set at 2%.
