The People's Government of Guangdong Province has recently unveiled the Construction Plan for the National Digital Economy Innovation and Development Pilot Zone in Guangdong Province (2025-2027). As outlined in the plan, by 2027, Guangdong is poised to lead the nation in digital economy development, with the value-added contribution of core digital economy industries expected to surpass 16% of the province's GDP. Guangdong aims to establish three digital industry clusters worth trillions of yuan with global competitiveness, cultivate multiple new high-value digital industry sectors, and achieve an average annual compound growth rate exceeding 15% in the data industry sector. The core artificial intelligence (AI) industry is projected to exceed RMB 440 billion in scale. Additionally, the digital transformation of industrial enterprises above a designated size is anticipated to exceed 60,000, while the computing capacity is set to exceed 60 EFLOPS (exaFLOPS, a unit of computing speed representing one quintillion floating-point operations per second). Guangdong is committed to becoming a world-class hub for digital economy development and will propel the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to attain the highest level of global digitization among bay areas worldwide.
