According to the regulatory agency overseeing the stability of the U.S. power grid, the rising power demand from data centers is exacerbating the risk of power outages across multiple regions in the United States during extreme winter weather this year. The winter assessment report released on Tuesday by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) stated that electricity consumption is expected to increase by 20 gigawatts this winter compared to the same period last year, and the power supply will struggle to meet the growing demand.
