Two data centers located in the heart of Silicon Valley, U.S., which were specifically tailored to handle high-energy-consuming computing tasks—namely, Digital Realty's SJC37 facility and Stack Infrastructure's SVY02A campus project—have been fully constructed but are currently lying dormant due to a delay in the power supply. At present, there is no definite schedule for when a full power supply will be established. Silicon Valley Power is channeling $450 million into upgrading the power grid, with the project anticipated to be finished by 2028.

Power supply bottlenecks are becoming an increasingly common issue across various regions in the United States. For instance, grid connection delays in Northern Virginia have resulted in some of Microsoft's GPU equipment sitting idle. Nevertheless, Silicon Valley continues to be the top choice for data center operators, largely owing to its geographical perks.

However, the substantial power requirements of AI clusters are putting immense strain on local power grids. Presently, both companies are actively collaborating with power companies to address power delivery issues. Yet, there's a looming concern that the gap between the completed data centers and the available power supply might widen even further in the days ahead.
