On October 27, 2025, it was reported that the U.S. Department of Energy had reached a $1 billion cooperation agreement with AMD to build two new supercomputers. Among them, the first supercomputer, named Lux, is expected to go online within six months at the earliest and will become the fastest supercomputer deployed in the United States. The Lux supercomputer will utilize AMD's MI355X chips as the primary computing power source, complemented by AMD's CPU chips and network chips. The second supercomputer, codenamed Discovery, is expected to be delivered in 2028 and put into operation in 2029, using AMD's next-generation MI430 series AI chips. These two supercomputers will be used in fields such as nuclear energy research, cancer treatment, and national security.
