Foxconn has forged an alliance with Japan's SoftBank Group to manufacture data center equipment at a former electric vehicle factory situated in Ohio, USA. This partnership is a key component of SoftBank's ambitious plan to enhance the US AI infrastructure, dubbed 'StarGate'. SoftBank has acquired the factory, and Foxconn will manage its operations through a joint venture between the two companies. Previously, Foxconn sold the factory for $375 million but withheld the buyer's identity. StarGate, a collaborative venture involving SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle, anticipates a total investment of up to $500 billion. Foxconn Chairman Liu Young-way emphasized that Ohio offers favorable conditions in terms of electricity supply, site suitability, and timing, making it an ideal site for the implementation of this groundbreaking project.
