However, the agency's suggestion to delete old emails as a water-saving measure has raised some eyebrows. In reality, deleting old emails does not reduce water usage in data centers. Data centers primarily employ air-cooling technology to manage heat, and the deletion of files does not impact the operation or energy consumption of hard drives. Paradoxically, frequent file deletion operations might even increase energy consumption in data centers, making this advice less than practical.
