In August 2025, a case of corporate espionage unfolded at TSMC's 15A plant. A Singaporean male, surnamed Lei, who previously served as the deputy manager of the Advanced Process Integration Department, was found guilty of stealing 50 pages of confidential 28-nanometer process information prior to his departure from the company. As a result, he was sentenced to one year in prison, with the sentence suspended for three years, and was also fined. Upon leaving TSMC, Lei promptly joined a subsidiary of SMIC. The court ruled that his actions had a detrimental impact on TSMC's competitive standing.
