In the first half of the year, SK Hynix charged approximately $500 per unit for its 12-layer HBM4 products supplied to NVIDIA, marking a significant increase of 60%-70% from the $300 selling price of its 12-layer HBM3E products. This positions SK Hynix as one of the pioneering companies to manufacture this advanced memory type and offer ready-made solutions tailored for the AI industry. The substantial price hike for HBM4 is attributed to the heightened manufacturing costs stemming from the increased complexity of the production process. However, despite this price increase, memory manufacturers may face compressed profit margins as competitors like Micron swiftly ramp up their HBM production capabilities.
