Recently, COMEX copper futures have lingered in a state of volatility at a subdued level, with prices hovering between $4.34 and $4.38 per pound. Prior to this period, New York copper prices reached an all-time high of $5.9585 on July 24. Nonetheless, on July 30, the White House announced the imposition of a 50% tariff on select imported copper products, effective from August 1, with the exception of copper raw materials and scrap. Following this announcement, copper prices plummeted sharply, declining by over 18%.
