A recent CSCI research report highlights the official launch of the hydropower project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River on July 19, 2025. Positioned strategically along the river's lower course, this project boasts a colossal investment of 1.2 trillion yuan, amounting to six times Tibet's annual investment. It carries significant implications for bolstering infrastructure development, fostering clean energy initiatives, and advancing hydropower capabilities in western China. Given its immense scale and sophisticated technical requirements, the project accounts for approximately 88.7% of China's total annual water conservancy investment in 2024. It is anticipated that a diverse range of enterprises, encompassing water conservancy and hydropower construction, tunneling, civil explosives, electrical equipment, foundation treatment, and building materials, will reap substantial benefits from this landmark initiative.
