In a bid to curtail the resale of high-performance AI chips to countries like China, the Malaysian government intends to establish an export and transit licensing regime for such chips originating from the United States. The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry has clarified that any individual or entity suspecting that these goods might be misappropriated or utilized for restricted purposes must promptly inform the relevant authority and secure a license at least 30 days prior to export, transit, or border crossing. This directive is now in immediate effect.
