A Dutch court in Rotterdam has sentenced German Aksenov, a Russian national, to three years in prison for violating EU sanctions against Russia by reportedly providing semiconductor technology information to the country. Aksenov, who formerly held positions at ASML and NXP, is suspected of stealing trade secrets and aiding Russia in the production of microchips. The court has deemed his actions potentially influential on the situation in Ukraine and international security.

Since his arrest in August 2023, Aksenov has been in custody and will face a 20-year ban on entering the Netherlands upon completion of his prison term. NXP has demonstrated zero tolerance for such behavior and has cooperated fully with the investigation. ASML, on the other hand, has yet to issue a response.
