Amidst persistent supply shortages, DDR4 memory prices have witnessed a remarkable surge in recent months, with certain products now commanding prices higher than those of DDR5. This unprecedented trend has compelled several manufacturers to reevaluate their decision to discontinue DDR4 production lines. Previously, leading DRAM manufacturers such as Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix had announced plans to cease DDR4 memory production by the end of 2025. However, the dwindling availability of DDR4 has triggered a steep spike in its spot prices within a span of just two months. For example, the cost of an 8GB DDR4-3200 chip has soared from $1.75 at the end of April to over $5, marking an astonishing increase.
