A June 20 report from The Wall Street Journal revealed that Jeffrey Kessler, Under Secretary of Commerce for the United States, has informed companies including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and TSMC, which operate wafer fabrication plants in China, of the U.S. government's intention to rescind their exemptions for the use of American technology in China. This primarily concerns semiconductor equipment. This action underscores the U.S.'s tightening grip on technology export controls directed at China. Should the exemptions be withdrawn, these companies will be prohibited from transferring U.S. chip manufacturing technology to their Chinese factories, potentially disrupting production line operations, technological advancements, and capacity enhancements.
