Datang Mobile has initiated three lawsuits against Xiaomi in German courts, alleging infringement of LTE/4G technology patents. Previously, Samsung faced a similar situation and subsequently reached a licensing agreement with Datang Mobile after being barred from selling 4G devices due to patent infringement. Datang Mobile, a subsidiary of CITIC Mobile, has also established licensing arrangements with Apple and Lenovo. The current lawsuit focuses primarily on communication products, such as smartphones, and is unrelated to Xiaomi's newly launched 4G watch chips. This action represents another instance where a Chinese company addresses standard-essential patent licensing disputes in foreign jurisdictions. In response to such claims, Xiaomi typically seeks patent invalidation or advocates for fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing rates.
