During a technology forum held in Yokohama, Japan, TSMC announced that construction of the second wafer fabrication facility (fab) by its subsidiary JASM in Kumamoto Prefecture is projected to commence in the second half of 2025, despite setbacks caused by transportation challenges and fluctuating customer demand. The president of TSMC's Japanese division disclosed that in 2024, the Japanese market contributed over $4 billion in sales to TSMC, constituting approximately 5% of its global total revenue, with wafer shipment area accounting for around 10%. This underscores the pivotal role of the Japanese market within TSMC's global strategic framework.
