The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and the Open Compute Project (OCP) are collaboratively developing the E2 SSD standard to cater to the burgeoning data storage needs of the AI industry. The current protocols, such as SAS, U.2, and E3, predominantly utilized in data centers, have fallen short of meeting the stringent requirements of the AI sector. The E2 SSD standard seeks to elevate storage performance and density through innovative protocols while keeping costs in check. Tailored for 2U servers, these SSDs offer a storage capacity of up to 1 PB per drive and ensure compatibility with E1 and E3 devices.
