Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com, has unveiled a shift in strategy. In a blog post aptly titled "Back to the Core," Automattic declared its renewed commitment to contributing to the WordPress project. Prior to this announcement, the company had indicated that WordPress version 6.8 would mark the final major release of 2025. This reversal encompasses several prominent projects, including WordPress Core and Gutenberg, as Automattic aims to uphold its mission: to empower publishing for all, everywhere. Matt Mullenweg, CEO of Automattic, aspires to release version 6.9 this year, integrating features developed by the company's new AI team.
