Intel is contemplating the spin-off of its Networking and Edge Computing division to sharpen its focus on its core CPU business. In 2024, this division reportedly generated $5.8 billion in revenue, accounting for 11% of Intel's total sales. This potential move could reflect new CEO Pat Gelsinger's view that this division does not significantly contribute to Intel's core strategy. Currently, internal discussions at Intel are still in their nascent stages, and alternative plans may emerge in the future. Previously, Intel had already integrated the financial results of the Networking and Edge Computing division into its Data Center and PC divisions, thereby ceasing to report them separately. Concurrently, Intel is planning layoffs, reorganizations, and budget cuts as part of a comprehensive transformation strategy.
