The Trump administration in the United States is reportedly planning to prohibit certain companies from exporting semiconductor design software to China. This ban, imposed by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) within the US Department of Commerce, primarily targets major players in the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) technology sector, including Cadence, Synopsys, and Siemens EDA, which collectively hold approximately 80% of the EDA market share in China. It is understood that at least one affected company has already received the directive and is currently undertaking an assessment of its implications.
